# Abort a call at any stage

New `POST /conversation/abort` stops a call whether it is queued, ringing or live, for every conversation type. A queued call is removed and never dials (`200 aborted`); a ringing or live call ends within 5 seconds (`202 aborting`). Aborted calls get the new `aborted` status, are billed only for the time after they were answered, and are never re-dialed when a campaign resumes. It replaces `POST /conversation/cancel` and `POST /conversation/{callId}/cancel`, which only stopped queued calls. Both are now deprecated and keep working, as do the SDK's `cancel` and `cancel_queued` methods.
